THE MASK THAT FIGHTS BACK

The last few weeks has been an adjustment. It’s officially May, and our summer preparations are very different this year. While we’re able to shop for all the makings of backyard BBQ or pool party, this mental picture now includes wearing face masks. It’s actually nice to laugh imagining us wearing swimsuits while also wearing face masks. 

In the last few weeks, the amount of face masks produced and sold has increased dramatically. As we prepare for a new normal, trying to find and purchase masks has been a rather daunting task. There are so many designers and stores that now offer washable masks, the question is, which one is right for you?

While there are many great options, our new favorite is the Antibacterial Premium Face Masks. Made from neoprene that contains silver ions, this fabric is breathable and quick-drying. Neoprene is a chemical resistant and durable latex-rubber known for being flexible and resisting degradation, which means that it will last much longer than some it’s fabric counterparts. The scuba like material is so light, that even adding the filter pocket doesn’t affect the integrity of the mask.

It was also really cool to uncover that using silver for medicinal purposes dates back to the medieval times. Silver was used as an antibiotic coating in medical devices and in wound dressing. Although they may not have known the exact science then, we know now that silver ions interfere with enzymes in the bacteria, changing the genetic material. Not only does it kill bacteria, but when infused in clothing, it helps them become odorless. 

For the foreseeable future, wearing masks in public will be expected to help prevent any additional spread of COVID-19. It’s understandable. While we’ve all been going stir crazy stuck at home, it’s important that we remain safe whenever we go out. Whether you choose a pretty cotton face mask, or invest in an antibacterial premium face mask, protecting yourself now is much easier… and definitely more fashionable.
